Evans Home Inspection, Inc.

“Competent, thorough, unbiased inspection”

_______________________________________________________________

BE CONFIDENT ABOUT YOUR HOME
Because you care for your home, you want to know that everything is sound, safe, and
working properly.  Your home must be the one place where you can confidently relax with
a sense of assurance, knowing that it will shield you from the elements and provide you
with easy living.  What better way to achieve that confidence than to have a professional
inspector examine your home's structure and installed systems and give you a detailed
performance report?  When you know that everything is sound, you can sleep peacefully.
And in those circumstances that indicate needed repairs or improvements, you can be
confident that you will know about them before they become unpleasant surprises.
Whether you are buying, selling, or remodeling, you need an inspection.  What does a
limited*
inspection look for?  The home's safety, performance, and condition.

MEET YOUR INSPECTOR, Clark   Evans.  My unique
background assures you that I understand what your
home means to you, the significance of your home's
defects, and your need for answers to your questions.
I have experience as a remodeler, inspector, and real
estate agent.  I know the big perspectives on a home.
I will serve as a
consultant to you as we look into your
home and its operation.  This is quite different from a
typical inspection, which only categorizes defects (and
may miss many causal factors).

I am a
nationally certified (# CE996572)  home
inspector by the Examination Board of Professional
Home Inspectors (having passed the National Home Inspector Examination—the test
used by 19 states for licensing home inspectors).  In addition, I am a
licensed
(#20628814) and insured
Minnesota Residential Building Contractor and Remodeler.
I also was certified in 2009 as a
Residential Energy Auditor and qualify to pressure-
test homes and recommend energy-saving equipment and processes.  I also hold other
certifications, including Infrared
Thermal Imaging, Radon testing, and Mold Inspection.
I received my home inspection training from Inspection Training  Associates (ASHI-
endorsed), a division of
Kaplan, FLIR’s ITC, St. Paul Technical College, Century College,
Dunwoody College of Technology, and ProSource, and I regularly attend continuing
education courses.  Finally, I joined NACHI (the National Association of Certified Home
Inspectors) in 2006.   Since 1976, I have done part-time skilled carpenter and handyman
work in addition to holding a full-time professional teaching position.  I have been
licensed as a real estate agent (1979-1985, retired).  I informally began inspecting
homes in 1998, and formed and registered Evans Home Inspection, Inc. in 2006.  I am a
graduate of both the University of South Dakota and the University of Minnesota.

My interests are, first, as an information engineer
consulting as a "house detective";
i.e., applying principles of "
Building Science" to  investigating and diagnosing
house/condo/building problems, figuring out why or how they happened, and suggesting
how to get them repaired; and second, helping
sellers and buyers evaluate a home for
sale or purchase (
home inspection).  My training, experience, and expertise allow me
to be a consultant and resource to other home inspectors.

NOTE:  Minnesota does not test, license, or supervise home inspectors*.  The unfortunate result
is that anyone can “hang out a shingle” and start inspecting.  Thus, many under-qualified
persons are inspecting in the Twin Cities.  In contrast, I am a licensed home builder, and I
became inspection-trained and certified, joined the National Association of Certified Home
Inspectors, became incorporated, and maintain an inspection-service-oriented web site.  (*A few
cities regulate
certain inspections; see the TISH/TOS section on another page in this website.)

VALUE
Your Evans Home Inspection professional is a generalist, much like the family physician:
we find symptoms and then suggest which types of professional specialists can best
follow up with you.
1)  I function as a consultant to owners who want their homes evaluated; we
also specialize in diagnosing complex residential building problems.
2)  In addition, I work with owners in evaluating contractors' proposals.
3)  I have no conflict of interest because we don't try to sell you contractor services and
we are
totally independent of all real estate licensees; our opinions are impartial.
4)  I assist buyers in determining whether a property has material defects which
affect its livability and value.
5)  I inspect to NACHI standards (Nat'l. Assn. of Certified Home Inspectors).
6)  I will give you one of the most complete, in-depth, and impartial inspections and
explanations that you can find, and all of this at a very reasonable price.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODE
Most cities require the owner to keep the property safe, well maintained, and pleasant
appearing.  Check the following link to see what is commonly expected for compliance
with the
property maintenance code.  To be certain about a property, you must check with
the city to be sure of its requirements and expectations.
Updating to GFCI's is recommended.

TRUST
I believe that clients should have access to independent, unbiased* professional,
technical, and analytical information so that they can make the best decisions to protect
their health, safety, and residential equity.  I treat my clients' personal and residential
information confidentially.  (*Unbiased opinion means
"free from collusion with unscru-
pulous real estate agents and free from kickback schemes with unethical builders."
)

CONFIDENTIALITY / PRIVACY POLICY
Your privacy (and mine, too) is very important to me.  I do not share names, addresses,
or other identifying information among clients or outside the firm.  No owner wants
negative information disclosed about his or her home to third parties.  The time for that is
during the real estate sales process.  Thus, you can be assured that your situation will not
be revealed to anyone else (except for mandatory legal process).  As a corollary, names
of "references" (yours included) are unavailable; no one will call you.

THIS SITE IS FOR YOU
This is your best place to turn for information about the inspection and diagnosis of your
residence. I have assembled insightful information from some of the profession’s most trusted
sources so that you don't have to search the web to find what you need.

ABOUT THE LOGO
My logo shows a home’s roof above three colored, curved bars
[green coming soon].  The curves represent wavelengths of energy.
The indigo blue bar represents water and moisture, a primary enemy
of any residence.  The sunshine yellow bar represents the quality of livability in a good home.
The vermillion red bar represents heat, energy, and thermal properties (including the carbon
footprint) of the home, as evidenced by infrared thermographic imaging, a core component of our
inspection business.
[The coming grass-green bar will represent green, sustainable, low-impact
living principles.]
The logo was designed by the well-known graphic artist, Mark Frost.  His work
can be viewed at
